Avastin is the trade name for Bevacizumab. Avastin is classified as a monoclonal antibody and anti-angiogenesis drug. Avastin (bevacizumab) is a cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Avastin  is a drug that slows the growth of new blood vessels.

Bevacizumab is usually given intravenously every 14 days. In colon cancer, it is given in combination with the chemotherapy drug 5-FU (5-fluorouracil), leucovorin, and oxaliplatinor irinotecan. For treatment of eye diseases it is injected intravitreously.
